Meet 3 VL Alums Supporting the LBGTQIA+ Community

June 9, 2021
Alumni Stories and Updates

June is Pride Month. Get to know three Valley Leadership alumni who are advocating for and celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community every day:

Angela Hughey (VL Institute Class 33) is the president and founder of ONE Community, which advocates for an LGBTQ-inclusive community, encouraging businesses and individuals to support diversity, equity and inclusion.

Sheila Kloefkorn (VL Institute Class 36) has been a long-time advocate for equity, helping students launch Arizona State University’s LGBTQ club. She has continued that support through Equality Arizona, Human Rights Campaign and ONE Community. Sheila founded KEO Marketing in 2000, and has been a longtime partner of VL’s Man and Woman of the Year event.

Nate Rhoton (VL Institute Class 38) is the executive director for one·n·ten, which works to enhance the lives of LGBTQ youth through social and service programs that promote self‐expression, self‐acceptance, leadership development and healthy life choices. Our Child Well-Being Team has recently engaged them on its work, and we look forward to more collaboration with them.

Want to celebrate the community? Join ONE Community for its Point of Pride Summit, June 21-24, or take part in Phoenix Pride, which will celebrate 40 years with a festival Nov. 6-7. Learn more here.
