Valley Leadership’s board of directors has elected its board leadership for the next two years. VL’s board will be led by President Paul Komadina, senior managing director for CBRE; Vice President Koran Hardimon, director of inclusion and diversity for Republic Services; Treasurer Josh Shade, Arizona market president for U.S. Bank; Secretary Nancy Baldwin, executive director and trustee of the Hickey Family Foundation; and At-Large Executive Committee Member Sherry McFadden, director at State Farm.
Valley Leadership Board Vice President Koran Hardimon has led the creation of VL’s Impact Maker Racial Justice Team, and he is the director of inclusion and diversity for Republic Services. He sat down with VL’s Leadership Development Manager Michelli Castaneda to discuss the idea of belonging, how he works to improve diversity, equity and inclusion at work and in the community, and how others can do the same.
As VL has launched new leadership development programming, our team has focused on shining a light on the interconnectivity of our greatest challenges – and understanding when and where we may not all be thriving – as a means for our leaders to explore how they can be more collaborative on and effective at tackling those challenges.
Stories help us make sense of the world. Having a good handle on your story – particularly how your journey has led you to connect to the issues or people you’re passionate about – is important. And, there are other behaviors you can practice that can help build perspective and connection that ultimately bring people together to make a difference.
Valley Leadership has reimagined its leadership development model to attract and prepare a pipeline of Arizonans who are committed to leading and making a difference on the most pressing issues in our state.
Valley Leadership is committed to engaging every Arizonan to lead. To do so, we’ve launched three brand new opportunities.
Arizona’s history has been shaped by incredible women leaders, breaking down barriers in politics and professions and laying the foundation for championing community and civil rights that continues today.
Valley Leadership recently welcomed for John Meza, the inspector general for the Arizona Department of Economic Security, to join its Board of Directors. Get to know the former Mesa Police chief and find out who inspires him, what he’s reading and what he’s looking forward to most this year.
Today marks the start of Black History Month, a time to celebrate the achievements and impact of African Americans. As we celebrate, we want to highlight leaders in Arizona.
January compels us to make commitments. And, as someone who spends a lot of time thinking about leadership development, I’m coming to realize that commitment is truly the core of adaptive leadership. Commitment is the through line that connects the pillars of adaptive leadership and transforms them into a roadmap that all of us can follow.
You’re no doubt ready to hit the ground running as we start off 2021, and so is VL. If getting engaged in the community is a resolution for you, we’re here to help.
As 2020 comes to a close, Valley Leadership’s Impact Maker – and the leaders and community organizations who power its work to strengthen Arizona – has had a busy year. To get into the holiday spirit, we’re looking back on the difference they’ve made and counting them down as 12 Days of Impact.
