Valley Leadership Announces 2007 Man & Woman of the Year Honorees
Dan Coleman and Dr. Carol Peck to be recognized at March 2008 Luncheon
PHOENIX—Two distinguished Arizona residents who have positively impacted thousands of Arizonans in their respective leadership roles have been selected as Valley Leadership’s 2007 Man and Woman of the Year, the Valley’s premier civic award recognition. Dan Coleman and Carol Peck join a prestigious list of past Man & Woman of the Year award recipients spanning the last 58 years, starting with U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater and extending through 2006 recipients Bill Post and Luz Sarmina.
As only the third CEO in his organization’s 80-year history, Dan Coleman has guided John C. Lincoln Health Network through tremendous growth and change. During the last two decades, he helped meet the North Valley’s rapidly expanding healthcare needs with acquisition/expansion of the Deer Valley Hospital, construction of health centers and creation of Mendy’s Place, the North Valley’s only pediatric emergency center. He led development of John C. Lincoln’s Level I Trauma Center, recognized for high quality by emergency medical personnel throughout Arizona. Throughout his tenure at the Network’s helm, Coleman has established an unassailable record of consistently striving for excellence in patient care, employee satisfaction, financial stability and community service.
John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital became the Valley’s first to receive Magnet recognition for excellence in patient care from the American Nurses Association. Preserving the Network’s dedication to its roots, Coleman encouraged establishment of endowments to support Desert Mission Food Bank, Children’s Dental Clinic, Community Health Center and Neighborhood Renewal, the programs which led John C. Lincoln to become the only Arizona organization to win the American Hospital Association’s prestigious Foster G. McGaw Prize for excellence in community service.
However, Coleman’s leadership roles go well beyond his day job. As a member of the American Hospital Association’s Board of Trustees, Coleman chaired the its Regional Policy Board, providing the benefit of his experience and wisdom on a wide range of public and political issues associated with the nation’s health care delivery. He also served as past chairman and is a current board member of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona and the board of trustees for St. Luke’s Health Initiatives. Recognized as one who can see the wide-ranging, long-term effects policy changes will have on our health care system, Coleman has frequently been asked to testify before Congressional and state legislative committees.
Coleman earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University. His additional degrees include an MBA from Denver University and an MHA degree from Washington University. Dan has a son and daughter and is married to Paula.
In her role as the President and CEO of the Rodel Charitable Foundation of Arizona, the 2007 Woman of the Year, Dr. Carol G. Peck is working diligently to accomplish the foundation’s vision: improving Arizona’s education system to be one of the best in the country by 2020. For more than 30 years, her passion for educational advocacy, conviction that all children can succeed, and spirit of innovative entrepreneurship have been the hallmarks of her career.
As the former Alhambra School District Superintendent for 16 years, Dr. Peck created, developed, and implemented a variety of winning programs that significantly raised student achievement in a large urban district. Her business partnership program brought in $1.3 million each year for programs to help ensure the success of Alhambra students. As a business leader, Dr. Peck collaborates with key government, business, and education officials to encourage, support, and facilitate systemic educational changes statewide. Peck has received extensive recognition nationally and statewide including National Superintendent of the Year. Dr Peck received her Doctorate Degree in Education Administration from Arizona State University and an honorary doctorate degree from Northern Arizona University.
Coleman and Peck will be celebrated on Thursday, March 20, 2008 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Valley Leadership 59th Annual Man & Woman of the Year Awards luncheon at the Arizona Biltmore..
